While researching the company's food chain, Don uncovers alarming facts about how meat in this country is processed. But Linklater and Schlosser, who cowrote the screenplay, are aiming for more than meat-eaters' stomachs in their effort to boil down the book's sweeping investigation of the food industry to a detailed look at the life of a fast-food hamburger. Vegetarians may feel entitled to a pat on the back after seeing some of the more gruesome scenes in "Fast Food Nation," Richard Linklater's fictional adaptation of Eric Schlosser's nonfiction best seller of the same name.
